BlogHer refers to a group blog and online community, and to an annual blogging conference for women. Three of the 2005 conference organizers, Elisa Camahort, Jory des Jardins, and Lisa Stone, began a company, Blogher LLC, which in 2006 also began a blog ad network. In 2007, BlogHers Act, a political blogging network by and for women, was started by the company.

BlogHer conference 2005

BlogHer began as a conference in 2005 in San José, California. It began with an idea and a blog, and once announced, quickly grew to a 300-person conference on women and blogging. The BlogHer team in 2005 included Elisa Camahort, Elise Bauer, Jenn Satterwhite, Jory Des Jardins, Lisa Stone, Lisa Williams, Maria Niles, Mir Verburg, and Toby Bloomberg.

BlogHer conference 2006

The second BlogHer conference was held in San José and was much larger than the first, with at least 750 attendees. Keynote speakers included Arianna Huffington, Catarina Fake, Caroline Little, Chris Nolan, Mena Trott Mena Grabowski Trott (age 32)) is a co-founder of Six Apart, creator of Movable Type and TypePad. The company name originates from the fact that Trott and co-founder/husband Benjamin Trott were born six days apart, Grace Davis, Meg Hourihan Meg Hourihan is the cofounder of Pyra Labs, the company that launched the Blogger personal blogging software that was acquired by Google. She published weblogs at Megnut.com and meg.hourihan.com. She co-founded Kinja along with Nick Denton of Gawker Media, and Marnie Webb.

BlogHer Business

In 2007, the community events expanded to a business blogging conference in March in New York City, and a third BlogHer conference in Chicago. BlogHer Business keynote speakers included Elisa Camahort, Jeannette Gibson, Stephanie Bergman, Rachel Clarke, Lisa Weinstein, Lisa Stone, Debi Fine, Marissa Mayer Marissa Ann Mayer is the Vice President of Search Product and User Experience at the search engine company Google. She acts as a gatekeeper for their product release process, determining when or whether a particular Google product is ready to be released to users. She has become one of the public faces of Google, providing a number of press, Stacy Morrison, and Caroline Little.

BlogHer 2007

BlogHer '07 keynote speakers include Rashmi Sinha, Gina Bianchini, Annalee Newitz Annalee Newitz is an American journalist who covers the cultural impact of science and technology, such as topics on open source software and hacker subcultures. She writes for many periodicals from Popular Science to Wired, and since 1999 has had a syndicated weekly column called Techsploitation. From 2004-2005 she was a policy analyst for the, Elizabeth Edwards Elizabeth Anania Edwards is an attorney and the wife of John Edwards, a former U.S. Senator from North Carolina who was the 2004 United States Democratic vice-presidential nominee, and a candidate for the 2008 Democratic presidential nomination, and Esther Dyson.

BlogHer 2008

On July 16, 2008 Blogher announced a partnership with Women@NBCU and iVillage. This landmark agreement provides iVillage access to BlogHer's extensive network of 2200 women's blogs, and promotional opportunities across BlogHer's large and influential audience. As part of the arrangement, iVillage, Oxygen.com and BravoTV.com will feature select BlogHer content. iVillage is an online network that is the leading women's content network with over 16 million unique visitors monthly. The network will be the largest agglomeration of women's media brands online.

Additionally, General Electric/NCBU's capital investment arm, "Peacock Equity", invested $5 million in BlogHer.[1]

Group blog and online community

In 2006, BlogHer started a group blog featuring over 60 women blogging on a variety of subjects. Its forums expanded to include a large worldwide community of bloggers who are women.
